‘Your Blueprint Can’t Work’ – Wike Rules Out Atiku’s 2027 Presidential Bid
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), will not secure the Party’s ticket in 2027.
Wike made this statement during a live media parley in his office in Abuja on Wednesday.
The Minister’s statement was in response to Atiku’s claim that his economic blueprint would better serve Nigerians than the current administration’s approach.

He emphasized that Atiku had previously presented his blueprint to Nigerians, who rejected him.
“Did he not present it before Nigerians? Did Nigerians choose him? He is lobbying for another chance, but the chance will not be there. In which party? How can we rely on one man for so many years?” Wike asked.
“You presented your blueprint in 2023; Nigerians heard you clearly and said thank you, but it will not work. We will not support you. Criticism does not mean the opposition is working,” he said.

Wike drew parallels with the American political system, citing Donald Trump’s influence on the Republican Party.
“Look at America. I’m sure you all did not support Trump, saying he is this, he is a racist, he is that. We cried, but Americans thought differently, made a decision for the good of their own country,” he added.
Wike who stressed that Atiku’s 2023 blueprint was rejected by Nigerians, noted that criticism does not equate to a functioning opposition.
Atiku’s camp quickly fired back, labeling Wike “a joker” who has consistently worked against Atiku’s interests.
Abdul Rasheeth, Atiku’s Special Assistant on Media, pointed out that Wike had attempted to stop Atiku in 2019 and contested against him in 2023, only to lose.
Information Nigeria reports that the exchange highlights the ongoing tensions within the PDP, with some analysts predicting that Atiku may join the Labour Party (LP) for the 2027 presidential election.
Others suggest that Wike’s influence within the Party may hinder Atiku’s chances of securing the ticket.
