Serie A: Real reason Olivier Giroud was picked as goalkeeper among AC Milan players
Former Arsenal and Chelsea star, Olivier Giroud played a goalkeeper role in the last minutes of AC Milan’s 1-0 win over Genoa on Saturday.
The Frenchman was forced to take the gloves after first choice goalkeeper Mike Maignan, was red carded.
AC Milan could not bring on a second goalkeeper having completed their changes on the night.
Olivier Giroud was chosen to man the goal post for one simple reason, his interest in goalkeeping since childhood.
The France international did not just fill the void created by Maignan, but perfected a fine save to deny Genao a late equaliser
The victory took AC Milan two points above city rivals Inter Milan in the Serie A table Speaking about why he was chosen for the role after Maignan’s red card, Giroud said, “I did like to go in goal when I was a kid, so that’s why I was chosen.”
AC Milan’s next game is against Juventus, which comes on 20th October, 2023.
