Former Senate President, Senator Chief Ken Nnamani, on Thursday, revalidated his membership of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Nnamani, representing the South-East in the APC National Caretaker Committee carried out the revalidation exercise at his Amaechi ward, Enugu-South Local Government Area, in the presence of the chairman of the registration and revalidation panel in charge of Enugu State, Senator Jonathan Zwingina, the Enugu State caretaker committee chairman of the party, Dr. Ben Nwoye, Amb. Fidel Ayogu, among others.
Speaking thereafter, Nnamani urged the people of the South-East zone to take the opportunity of the exercise and join the leading party in the country.
He noted that the wise decision to take now was to join the mainstream party in order to attract more development projects and be part of the scheme of things at the national level.
He said, “I have revalidated my membership of APC at my polling unit today; so, I am encouraging our people, I call on every person from 18 years and above, try and find time to register, to join the national movement called APC, national in the sense that APC is the one responsible for the growth, solidarity of Nigeria.
“It is necessary that our people participate at the centre and not just concentrate on the minor little States in the South-East. Let our people join the mainstream of Nigeria and that is APC. It is the party for everybody and the President has emphasized every person to register from bottom up.
“If we exhaust the registration material, we have more to come. Our people should join this national movement because if you notice the number of people jumping ship and coming into APC wagon, it tells you something is happening.
“Luckily for us in Enugu here, we have Senator Zwingina, he is a highly experienced person to have such a dynamic team here. I was also in Anambra yesterday, I saw how they distributed their own materials, everything went well there; it is also taking place in Imo, Abia is very okay, they are already registering full blast, so many people are queuing up, in fact they don’t have enough papers now.”
The former Senate President maintained that the APC in Enugu State was now one, stressing that “it is clearly under the leadership of Dr. Ben Nwoye. We call him Archbishop, the various factions in Enugu have come together, we are now one.
“Any other person that is anywhere else, the train has left the station, and the person should try and catch up at the next station.”
Also speaking, Zwingina who described the distribution of the materials in Enugu State as very peaceful, faulted the stand by former national chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole that the exercise was unconstitutional.
He cited section 9 of the party’s constitution and said Oshiomhole should find time and read it.
“They should go to section 9, sub-section 4 and refreshen themselves with respect to the provisions of the constitution,” he stated.
Earlier, the Chairman of the caretaker committee of the APC in Enugu State, Dr. Ben Nwoye Dr. Ben Nwoye said with the ongoing exercise, the party was preparing the ground to take over the 5 states of the South-East geo-political zone in the next general election.
While calling on people of the Enugu State and the South-East to take advantage of the registration, Nwoye said APC remained the party to beat in 2023, adding that the party has all it takes to remain in power.
