Lagos Govt Demolishes 138 Shanties Where Occupants Pay N100,000 Annual Rent
No fewer than 138 shanties around the canal bank in the Ajao Estate Canal have been demolished by operatives of Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps.
In a statement by the State’s Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this via his X page on Friday.
Wahab noted that occupants of the now demolished shanties paid between N60,000 and N100,000 in annual rent.

He said: “In continuation of concerted measures to reduce the scourge of environmental infractions and illegal encampment in public spaces, the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), popularly known as KAI, on Thursday demolished 138 shanties around the canal bank in Ajao Estate Canal where illegal occupants pay between N60,000 to N100,000 rent.”
Recall that INFORMATION NIGERIA had reported that 94 miscreants were arrested by KAI on Wednesday.
Mr. Wahab noted that dangerous items, such as guns, charm, locally made guns were also recovered from the suspects, adding that they will be charged to court by Lagos State Government.
He said: “Ninety-four suspects were arrested during the operation, and a locally fabricated short gun, several wraps of illicit substances suspected to be Indian hemp, charms, and a jackknife were recovered.
“The suspects will be charged in court accordingly.”
