JUST IN: Many feared dead as two petrol tankers explode at Adamawa filling station

Many people have been reportedly dead as fire gutted two petrol-laden tankers at an MRS filling station along the Numan Road, opposite the Jezco filling station near the Yola International Airport on Tuesday.

The incident caused significant disruption to vehicular movements as the road leading to Yola, the State capital, was blocked.

Residents rushed to the scene to witness the inferno, disregarding potential danger of two fuel tankers which had already been consumed by the fire as of press time.

Firefighters from the Adamawa State Fire Service, Federal Fire Service, and the American University of Nigeria (AUN) are working to contain the blaze.

Eyewitnesses reported that the explosion occurred while a truck was unloading petrol.

Several vehicles are reportedly engulfed in flames as firefighters work to contain the situation.

The area, which has more than 10 filling stations, is raising concerns that the fire may spread around the vicinity.

“We learn a loud bang and the filling station went up into flames while a fuel tanker was offloading,” an eyewitness said.

“The level of destruction of property is monumental,” another eyewitness said.
