BREAKING: Tinubu visits Maiduguri over flood disaster (Video)

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State for a sympathy visit over the recent flood disaster.

The president embarked on the visit on Monday shortly after returning from his trip in China and a short stay in the United Kingdom.

On arrival, the President was received by the Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, the Air component commander, Air Commodore Usman Idris and some top-ranking officers of the Nigerian Army in the Northeast.

Also receiving the President were the Governors of Kogi State, Usman Ododo, Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company, NNPC, Mele Kyari, Senator representing Borno North, Mohammed Tahir Monguno, Minister of Agriculture and food security,  Abubakar Kari, All Progressives Congress Party Chieftains and officials of the Bola Tinubu Administration.

While in Maiduguri, President Tinubu will visit the Palace of the Sheu of Borno,  Abubakar Garba Ibn Umar Al Amin Elkanemi.

The flood which began after the Alau Dam overflowed following heavy rains affected over 1 million residents and more than 400 people displaced with over 30 death.

Previously, the president dispatched Vice-president Kashim Shettima to assess the situation and announce the federal government’s donation of N30 billion.

Also, Tinubu, in a release by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, extended his condolences to the government and people of Borno State, especially the families that lost their means of livelihood due to the disaster triggered by the overflow of the Alau Dam.

While relevant authorities were still assessing the damage caused by the flood, Tinubu called for the immediate evacuation of people from the affected areas.

He assured Zulum that the federal government was ready to collaborate with the state to address the immediate humanitarian needs of the affected people.

While ordering the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to assist the flood victims, Tinubu said he remained committed to mobilising federal resources to support the state during this difficult time.
