The Nigerian Army has pledged to investigate officers implicated in the viral video showing a couple being assaulted in Abuja.

The footage, which spread on social media, appears to show soldiers, including a “major general,” physically abusing the couple.

Eyewitnesses claim the soldiers stopped the couple for “unlawfully overtaking” their convoy.

The couple alleged that they were handcuffed, shoved into a car trunk, and taken to the Gwarimpa police station, where soldiers ordered their indefinite detention.

In response, Army spokesperson, Onyema Nwachukwu, on Wednesday stated that the Acting Chief of Army Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, has ordered an immediate investigation.

“The NA remains committed to serving and protecting all law-abiding Nigerians.

“Due diligence will be applied to reach a logical conclusion on this matter,” the statement read partly.

The Army assures the public that the circumstances surrounding the incident will be thoroughly unraveled.
