2023: Wike, Other G-5 Members May Disagree On Preferred Presidential Candidate

2023: Wike, Other G-5 Members May Disagree On Preferred Presidential Candidate

The five aggrieved governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) identified as G-5 ahead of the 2023 presidential election are yet to announce their preferred candidate.

There are speculations that members of the G-5 and Integrity Group may not be on the same page in picking a preferred presidential candidate.

With claims having it that the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike would support the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, others may endorse the Labour Party (LP) flagbearer, Peter Obi.

A close associate of Governor Wike who spoke with Daily Trust said the aggrieved governors would support a candidate who has strength and capacity.

He said, “There are only four candidates, it’s only one of them that we are not considering. We are yet to settle down on anyone. But our watchword is equity, justice and what can bring about peace and stability in this country. It is in line with the Asaba Declaration.

“But whoever we will settle on must have the needed strength and capacity.”

Another source, who is a member of the integrity group, said the five governors and other chieftains may not go in one direction.

The source said, “Wike can support Tinubu, but I don’t see some others in the group, like Ortom, going in the same direction. The two governors from the South East may also find it hard going against PDP and LP to support APC considering the political realities of their states.”
